FAQ – Non Profit Grants, Conference Facilities, Board Retreat Grants

What is Sarkeys Foundation?
Sarkeys is a nonprofit charitable foundation that supports the activities of public charities through direct grants and educational opportunities. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
What does Sarkeys Foundation fund?

We fund many types of programs in social or humanitarian services, arts and cultural endeavors, education, scientific research, and animal welfare. Sarkeys provides funding only to 501(c)(3) type organizations. See the annual report section of the web site here for a listing of organizations and projects recently funded.

What does Sarkeys Foundation generally not fund?
A list of programs and agencies outside the range of interest for Sarkeys Foundation can be found on the web site, www.sarkeys.org, under the “grants” link. Some of those not eligible for funding include start-up funding for new organizations, hospitals, vans or other vehicles, government agencies, for-profit organizations, annual fund drives, and individuals.
Who is eligible to apply for a grant?
Most organizations classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) that is not a private foundation headquartered and offering services in Oklahoma may apply. Preference is given to organizations that have been in operation for at least 3 years.
How do I apply for a grant?
An initial call to a program officer (Susan Frantz, Diana Hartley, or Linda English Weeks) at 405.364.3703 is the first step. Speaking to a program officer will help you learn whether your agency or project is a good fit for Sarkeys.
The application form is available for download here. Separate instructions for completing the application may also be downloaded.
Other than grants, how does Sarkeys Foundation support nonprofits?
We have a variety of educational and training opportunities for professional staff development, board members, and other volunteers. Those programs are: The Toolbox Series (Fall/Spring beginning in odd number years), Oklahoma Institute for Nonprofit Leaders (Spring of even number years), and the Southwest Regional Leadership Forum (Fall of odd number years).
Other support is provided by:
→ A Conference Center available for use free of charge during regular work hours
→ A Resource Library located in the building adjacent to the Conference Center
→ A Resource Center for creating and printing signs, posters, or other materials
→ A Nonprofit Incubator to house new or transitioning agencies for up to 3 years
→ Additional meeting space for smaller groups
When are proposals due?
Proposal deadlines are February 1 and August 1 of each year. Should that date fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline will be the following Monday. A single copy is due in the Sarkeys office at 530 East Main Street, Norman, OK 73071 by 4:30 p.m. of the deadline date.
How often may I apply?
An organization may submit one request in a twelve month period.
What facilities are available?
